19 year old girl suicide: NEET Aspirant girl suicide in her 2nd attempt

According to authorities, a 19-year-old lady in Thirumullaivoyal, Tamil Nadu, allegedly committed suicide after failing to pass the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG-2022 exams, the results of which were released late on Wednesday.

On Thursday, about 3.30 am, the mother of the adolescent discovered daughter dead inside her house. According to authorities, she was immediately taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in Chennai, where medics pronounced her dead.

“The teen had taken the test a second time. She had travelled to the Philippines to pursue an MBBS degree and needed to pass the NEET exam, according to Vijay Raghavan, an officer at the Maduravoyal police station.

On July 17, the undergraduate medical admission exam was held. Only 67,787 of the 132,167 candidates from the state who showed up to take the exam passed.

Since the exam became required in the state in 2017 as a result of a Supreme Court decision, over 20 medical aspirants have committed themselves.

The justification for opposing NEET in Tamil Nadu has been that it unfairly discriminates against students from rural and low-income backgrounds (who cannot afford coaching) and those enrolled in boards other than the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the state’s minister of education, pleaded with students not to resort to drastic measures in the event that they failed the exam.

No matter how much confidence we give them, there is a worry that they might go the extreme step. I advise students to visit the counselling centres in their schools if they are having a bad day, according to Poyyamozhi.

Poyyamozhi continued, “We have started getting a lot of calls in our 104 counselling helpline.
