Free Ration For Poor Under The NFSA Extended By One Year

Government of India announced that free ration to poor under the NFSA scheme extended by one year; Earlier, we were facing the Covid-19 pandemic due to it, economy crises rising.

Now, Again different variant of Covid is spreading thus the government has taken this steps for poor.

In a significant move, the government decided on Friday to grant 81.35 crore impoverished people free rations for a whole year under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The government presently supplies 5 kilogrammes of food grains each person, every month, under the NFSA, popularly known as the food legislation, at a cost of Rs 2-3 per kg. Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)-covered families receive 35 kg of food grains each month.
Under the NFSA, poor people receive rice for Rs 3 per kg and wheat for Rs 2 per kg.

The Centre will be entirely responsible for distributing free food grains under the NFSA, according to Food Minister Piyush Goyal, who gave a press briefing on the Union Cabinet’s decision.

It is estimated that the exchequer will incur annual expenses of Rs 2 lakh crore.

In the meantime, the government opted not to prolong the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), a free ration programme that expires on December 31.

For free, 81.35 crore beneficiaries who are covered by NFSA are given five kilogrammes of food grains each month under PMGKAY.

This is in addition to the NFSA’s monthly provision of heavily subsidised food grains.

It was really essential to protect the poor giving this food security assurance. In this way, the richer getting richer and poorer getting poorer.
